Due to COVID-19, we are all being asked to wear face coverings in public places. However, these face coverings are really uncomfortable to wear as they restrict breathing and the user gets hot and sweaty when wearing them. Due to this, users are continuously either removing the mask or pulling the mask down when no people are around and then, in turn, replacing the mask when people are in close proximity. This procedure is really problematic as the users are continuously touching the mask and their face and, ultimately, contaminating themselves thus eliminating all the benefits of wearing the mask.
Please design a smart face covering that will open when the user is alone and then closing when someone is in close proximity. Therefore, the mask must be able to sense when someone is near and close, when the user is alone and open and visually signal to others when it is safe to approach (e.g LED’s ). Also, the user must be able to breathe when the mask is closed. Therefore, the students must utilize and adapt an ordinary mask or implement some sort of respirator system.
Your presentation should include the brief of the design, essential points of the design breakdown and deliverables. Everything you need for building a prototype is readily available such as PIR’s (proximity sensors), servo motors, MCU’s(A˙rduino), LED’s etc.
